if you don't have any credit history yet, and you need to have a credit card to start establishing that history, they reject your application because you don't have sufficient credit history.

if you're jobless, and completely demolished your credit history with unpaid bills, collection claims, and bankruptcy, and your prospective employers pull their offers once they see these red flags via credit checks, then you have no way of repaying your bills and rebuilding your credit history now, do you?
