scavenging

i finally got to mosey over the local Circuit City today on 86th, to check out if there were any useful stuff left, before they finally close their doors. the economic crisis has been unforgiving, considering they opened this branch merely two years ago.

didn't find much, and i wasn't about to buy an HDTV. so i ended up getting a couple of games for me and my brother-in-law. not having played for awhile, it made me dizzy early. perhaps it was fitting that my final purchases here were PS3 games, as i got my system (MGS4 combo) from their website last year when everyone else didn't have it.

with the advent of better online stores in recent years, Circuit City and Best Buy faced stiff competition, and even i barely went into one unless there was a huge sale. i loved these brick-and-mortar stores (including CompUSA - these days, purely a Florida and Puerto Rico operation - and Tower Records) back at the turn of the millennium, because they were the best places to go for gadgets and music and movies back then. but they never found a way to compete nimbly, given the business models were evolving. within a decade - three down, one to go (and that's not even a sure thing).

for CC nostalgia buffs, you can still go to a Canadian branch.
